I will guide you in drawing a modern version of this incredible, free flowing ancient art form. In this session we will be drawing a pair of Love Birds.
No animal represents the sentiment of love more than love birds. This symbolism dates back to the Middle Ages, as it is commonly known that a pair of birds symbolises true love.
It is believed that the first bird a single person sees on Valentine's Day is a symbol of his or her life partner. Jeffrey Chaucer, on the subject of birds and love in his poem The Parliament of Foules wrote: For this day was sent on Valentine's Day when every fowl is there to choose his mate!
Medieval Europeans believed that many birds mated on this day, underscoring the link of Valentine's Day's to affection and courtship. They pictured cozy pairs of doves as the epitome of love and devotion, thus the term “lovey-dovey.”
And so we draw a pair of Love Birds.
Madhubani literally means ‘forests of honey’ and refers to paintings in a distinct style that capture viewers’ attention with their vibrancy. It is a 2500-year-old folk art from the times of Ramayana originated in Bihar, India. Fast forward to 21st century, we, at Bandiworks, have adapted this art form to fuse elements of the ancient form, ‘Madhubani’ with present times.
This online workshop will introduce you to the free flowing black lines of Madhubani!
What we’ll do:
I’m a multi-disciplinary artist, and love to engage with folk/tribal art from across the world – wiPth a special focus on India. I design and conduct experiential workshops, giving a contemporary bent to heritage Art n Craft. I have thoroughly enjoyed conducting in-person and online workshops for audiences in India, USA, UK, Australia, Dubai. My workshop at Amazon HQ in Seattle demonstrated the ease with which art communicates with people from different countries and ethnicities. The learning and sharing process has been unique in each workshop and the participants’ ages have varied from age 8 to 80!
