Learn how to use letterpress to make unique prints.
Detailed description:From wild west posters to modern art, learn how to use Gutenberg's invention: letterpress, to make one-of-a-kind art at this London workshop. Whether you're an advanced printer or a true beginner, you will find the letterpress a labour of love and a relaxing and creative process. Remember how it is to be at one with yourself, away from your computer screens and smartphones. During this printmaking workshop, you will cover: - Introduction to hand-setting metal/wood type and locking up. - Printing on Croydon's finest: Farley proofing presses or 8 x 5 Adana presses. - The chance to set and print your own piece of work to take home. Every level of expertise is welcome, and you certainly don’t need to be a designer, artist or creative to give it a go. Anyone can get hands-on with letterpress, we are all creative!
Our printmaking space is run by artists Juliet Adame + David Vassie. It all started with us rescuing a lot of equipment from an old printer; we detest the idea of seeing type and presses being turned into coffee tables, akin to toys being entombed in their packaging, never to be played with.
A collaborative platform for people of different interests connected to language and printing. Art studio, publishing house, classroom.
We are located in Stoke Newington, just off the beautiful Clissold Park, minutes from our studio you can find one of the most unique high streets left in London, mainly independent shops, small eateries and restaurants for every budget. If you are vegetarian or vegan, Stokey is definitely your place. And of course there's pubs, where you can go unwind after a busy day printing with us.
