About the experience

Experience Duration : 3 hrs
Detailed description:

The benefits of adopting a vegan lifestyle to our own personal health as well as to the fight against climate change have been well publicised of late. As a result many of us are giving up meat and switching to a plant based diet. Our Asian Vegan cooking class is designed for those who are already vegan or looking to switch to a plant based diet and need some inspiration for unique recipe ideas. If you thought vegan dishes lack flavour then this class will make you think again as you will be introduced to some mouth watering dishes including tempe which originates from my own Sundanese culture. You will learn to prepare and cook each dish from scratch at your own individual work station by following me with step by step instruction. At the end of the class enjoy your own cooked 3 course meal together with the other students or alternatively take your meal home with you to share with family and friends. The class includes the following: - A welcome drink and limitless refreshments during the class - All cooking equipment for the dishes prepared in the class.

SKILL LEVEL - The course is suitable for everyone from basic cooking skills upwards.

SKILLS LEARNT DURING THE COURSE - Understanding Asian spices and how to combine to make spice pastes - How to balance flavours - Knife skills - Increased cultural understanding of Indonesia and some basic greetings.

DIETARY REQUIREMENTS Please note this class is not suitable for people with nut allergies During the Learn To Cook Indonesian class we will make the following dishes: Corn Fritters A Popular and very morish Indonesian street food snack comprising crispy sweetcorn fritters with a hint of ginger and garlic. Pan Fried Tempe with Kecap Manis (Sweet Soy Sauce) & Ginger High in protein with a variety of health benefits, Tempe is a traditional Indonesian dish made from fermented soya beans. Learn how to make this tasty dish of deep fried golden tempe slices coated in sweet soy sauce, garlic, ginger & tamarind. Sundanese Spiced Coconut With Steamed Vegetable Salad Learn to cook this fresh, fragrant and spicy salad made with blanched vegetables and finished with shredded spiced toasted coconut. Sumatran Jackfruit Coconut Curry With Steamed Jasmine Rice Learn how to make this irresistible jackfruit curry simmered in spiced coconut milk.

About the host

Awed by my mother’s cooking skills, I eventually made a career choice and surrendered to the call of the kitchen. I developed my recipes and cooking tricks from my mum as well as the local roadside food stalls I grew up with, and my first-hand experiences from travelling. There is nothing more nostalgic than food, and using my knowledge to recreate memories through the science of flavour is my passion. In 2009, my partner and I packed up our things and moved from everything I knew in Indonesia to England. And that gave me the idea, of sharing my love of food with other people and so I opened up my kitchen to welcome everyone to learn to cook, in a fun and relaxing environment; and so My Exotic Kitchen was born !!!!
