I often find it sad that visitors to Bristol too often only head to Clifton Suspension Bridge, the SS Great Britain and the amazing balloon festival. Don't believe me check Instagram for photographs of Bristol. But this home city of mine offers so much more in heritage, history, (good and bad) mysteries and the macabre. This is after all the city once voted the happiest place to live in the UK and called the Street Art Capital of the world. Join this tour to find out more.
Detailed description:So what is this photography tour all about? Well when we think of Bristol, we tend to think of Brunel’s Suspension Bridge, the SS Great Britain and flying balloons. But Bristol offers so many more opportunities for photography. In the days of lockdowns Adrian took the opportunity to explore and discover beyond the obvious and found the centre of Bristol is rich in the not so well-known places, history, mystery and stories. On this photography tour we have the opportunity to photograph some of the area’s historical sites, starting at the bottom of Park Street on College Green, we will take it sights and oddities and for those who wish to try some street photography as we move across the centre to King Street and beyond. In just this small area there are oddities, street art, the macabre and more As we walk Adrian, who is a professional photographer, not a tour guide, will point out some lesser-known sites and history that might otherwise pass us by while always focussing on the opportunity to enjoy and improve our photography skills. During our time Adrian will give the opportunity to photograph: Buildings to people, light and shadows, reflections and the quirky. Point out some of the lesser-known points of this part of Bristol giving the chance to photograph beyond the obvious. Help with camera settings including white balance, ISO, semi-automatic settings Experiment with composition and perspectives. This is a photography walk for all, whether using a smart phone, tablet or DSLR. Each offers an opportunity to photograph this incredible part of the city but moving beyond bridges and balloons and offers the chance to get creative if you wish and recover that photographic mojo!
Rather than me promote what a great experience I think this is, let someone from the last photography tour tell you. “Thank you for the fantastic walk yesterday in Bristol City Centre. The walk opened my eyes to many things I hadn’t noticed before and I managed to get some good photos.” then you came along with the insightful walk. We both went home buzzing…“ Bristol is my home town and has been nearly all my life, but even I did not know many of the mysteries and tales it holds. The during those times of restrictions I set about finding out more and saw the opportunity for fun, photography and well being to come together.
On the tour we will discover and see:
All this of course while practicing those photographic skills and learning about our cameras and phone cameras as we go.
