From The National Gallery to the world famous Wallace Collection in the gorgeous Hertford House Museum in Marlybone, I will lead you on an exploration not just of art throughout the ages but also how we perceive and translate it into our own art work. Along the way this will include the practical application of drawing and how to study different aspects of a masterpiece to gain not only a better understanding, but also to bring to life on paper what it makes you feel.
Detailed description:The National Gallery and Wallace collection is one of the world’s finest collections of European painting, spanning the 13th to 20th centuries. This experience is an opportunity to make an intensive study of particular artists, paintings, periods, and themes across the collection. We will examine specific aspects from the language of drawing such as; the compositional structure, the use of color and tone to create form and spatial effects as well as the rich narratives and symbolic elements. All of this will help you step closer to seeing through the eyes of the original trail blazing artists who created these wonders. Then translating all you have observed and learnt to incorporate into your own drawing.
Drawing is the foundation of my art. I am not sure where the drawing ends and painting begins because drawing underpins everything that I do. I have always thought the world around me is full of variety and that should be reflected in my art, constantly changing and full of variety because nature is constantly changing. I still remember when I was growing up my mother found me observing and sketching from paintings and sculptures at the museums and galleries, this involved learning and honing my skills at the Royal Drawing School.
The National Gallery has one of the greatest collections of paintings from Renaissance to Impressionism. It is in the heart of London with an incredible atmosphere.. We will visit another hidden gem in London, The Wallace collection, which houses some of the finest paintings of the Dutch, French and English artists. It is a jewel that takes you back into history of the opulence and the baroque period of European art.
