About the experience

Experience Duration : 4 hrs
Experience Summary:

For anyone who’s ever wanted to have a go at glassblowing this is your golden opportunity to fulfil that dream! You will get to make your very own blown glass forms in clear glass, and be shown various techniques to either make a tall, closed or wide form. For the last piece of the day you’ll be able to add some colour.  You might not make a masterpiece, but it will be all yours to keep.

Detailed description:

In this beginners glassblowing workshop you'll be blowing your own pieces under my supervision.

I will gather the glass from the furnace and then you'll be guided through the process of making different forms in clear glass and one piece using colour.

This is a physical workshop and while you are blowing glass you'll be moving from the marver to the chair and the furnace all the while carrying and turning the glassblowing iron while trying to keep the glass "on-centre".

This is a hugely rewarding workshop which will see you master the material of molten glass.

Your creations will be left to cool overnight and then you can take them home and impress your friends with your talent!

Please wear proper shoes and layers of clothes if possible - this is a hot activity.

About the host

I’m Will and I have been blowing glass for 40 years in my own workshops. I have taught glassblowing on and off for years to small intimate groups. I believe in showing people properly how to blow glass, warts and all. If you come along to my workshops you’ll get a true understanding of what glassblowing entails.

I still find molten glass amazing and frustrating. I think it is one of the most beautiful materials. One of man's best inventions.

Special Considerations

We require everyone who undertakes our glassblowing experiences to be physically able to move easily and to be able to hold the blowing irons and to crouch down and stand up from crouching.

By its very nature glassblowing is a physical activity that requires a high level of fitness.

Also note that the workshop is a noisy environment so you need to be able to hear Will and lipreading is not an alternative as often he will be turned away from you.

If you feel you may struggle with any element, please get in touch.
