Join Morgan Amber at her block printing workshop! Learn about traditional Indian printing techniques and transform a piece of textiles you own. Experience the feel of a design studio, experiment with natural dyes and be a part of discussions surrounding ethical design.
Detailed description:This experience will offer a block printing workshop with a professional print designer, in her studio located in East London. Morgan is a skilled printer with specialist knowledge working with Indian partners in Jaipur. You will have fun pressing magical motifs, colours and patterns onto textiles. 1. Firstly, you will look at examples of Indian block printed fabrics and explore artists who have influenced Morgan's work. 2. You will then experiment the block printing technique with a piece of natural cotton provided, natural dyes and hand carved woodblocks sourced from India. 3. The final part of the workshop will focus on the skills you have learnt, by accessorising your own garment or household soft furnishing, brought from home. Light refreshments will be provided throughout the day.
Hi, my name is Morgan. I am a Chelsea College of Arts graduate, textile designer, specialist block printer and teacher. I love Indian textiles, and after living in Jaipur for 6 weeks, I built upon skills and lifelong connections with amazing artisans and makers. I now produce beautiful printed textiles with a social enterprise based in Rajasthan and teach block printing workshops in London. My work is driven by social causes, such as supporting and nurturing the artisan way of life, alongside ethical methods, such as natural dyes and indigenous fibres. I wish to share these methods of printing with others through colourful and imaginative textiles.
You will experience the feel of a design studio at Craft Central, an inspirational space with a vibrant community of makers, crafters, artists and creatives. The building is located in East London, just a 15 minute walk away from Greenwich and Canary Wharf. Greenwich is said to be one of the best places to visit in London. It offers something of interest to every visitor! From historic attractions and world-class museums to beautiful parks and bustling markets. Canary Wharf is London's central business district. It boasts many towering office buildings and luxurious residential properties that overlook the River Thames and many of the city's most notable landmarks, such as One Canada Square. It is a great place to eat, shop and explore.

Guests should be expected to wear old clothes or bring aprons, as they will be using dyes that could possibly stain clothes. They can also bring gloves if they are worried about getting dye on their hands, although this is not completely necessary.
