Do you love craft, history, geology and general adventure? Join me on an exploration into clay and making. We will embark on a walk exploring ancient history, geology, and dig for local clay. Once back, we will clean locally sourced clay and make a vessel with it! Once your pot has been fired, it will be posted to you.
Detailed description:Captivated by my local landscape, I began digging for clay during my Masters in Ceramics. Further digging and research unearthed the Bell Beaker phenomenon, and many other Roman finds in the area. To imagine people 4,000 digging for clay and making vessels captured my imagination.
I would like to share this passion and inspiration with you, exploring where to find clay, looking through history, and journeying through finding and making a pot together. The first part of the journey will involve a lovely walk through the hills, looking for and digging up clay. Once we are happy with the clay, we will bring it back to dry it. Using other locally sourced clay which has had time to dry, we will to clean the clay and make a vessel with it.
This experience begins in my local area, but it can be tailored to a location near you.
My name is Lisa and I love sharing my passion for clay. I love it so much that I recently had the opportunity to go to Saudi Arabia to develop designs, and work with Artisans in clay out there. Graduating with a Masters in Ceramics in September, my work developed once I began digging for local clay, and researching ancient 'local' cultures. I am passionate about sharing this knowledge and creating a memorable and inspired experience.
I live in a rural and hilly part of Essex, part of the ancient Icknield Way, and the land is part chalky, part clay.
